Whilst the “General Gateway ” shows limited performance, “Industrial Gateway ” provides multiple-functionality that can efficiently cover applications ranging from fiber optic laboratories needs for an analyzer to receive and analyze different types of optic sensors in harsh industrial environments like oil and gas wells. That complex system consists of a high-speed photodiode, a fast response analog-to-digital-converter (ADC), and a dedicated system-on-chip (SoC). While the photodiode could receive and convert the light in the defined wavelengths range into electrical current or voltage, the ADC converts the analog data from the photodiode into the digital values and sends it to the SoC. The SoC consists of two different but coherent section, a digital signal processing or DSP that could process the huge stream of data sent by the ADC and a central processing unit (CPU) that is considered as the heart of the system where controls the data flow and undertakes the duty to manipulate and/or prune the data and monitor a smooth data flow from the analog section to users’ display.
